Databases
A database is a list where every item has the same details, like a reading list or a list of projects.
#What a database is
Think of a reading list. Each book has a title, an author, a status (to read, reading, finished) and a rating. In Mecmua that list is a database: each book is a row, and each detail is a column.
Every row is also a page of its own. Open a book and you can write your notes about it right there.
#Add a database
- Type / on any page.
- Choose a table (or a board).
- Add rows with New row at the bottom of the table.
#Columns
Add a column for every detail you want to keep. A column can hold text, a date, a number, a choice from a list, a checkbox, a rating, a link to another database, and more. Choose the kind when you add it.
#Views
The same rows can be shown in different ways, called views:
- Table: rows and columns, like a spreadsheet.
- Board: cards in columns, for example one column per status. Drag a card to change it.
- List: just the names, simple and quiet.
Each view keeps its own filters and sorting, so one database can have a view of the books you are reading now and another of everything you have finished.
