Mecmua is made by Ömer Kocar, an individual in Canada (“we”). This page says what we know about you, and why. The short version: as little as possible.

The app

Mecmua keeps everything you write on your own computer. It has no account, no analytics and no telemetry. We never see your notes, files or settings.

It connects to the internet only for these things:

  • To check this website for a newer version, and download it. The download comes from GitHub, where the installers are kept.
  • To show the extension Marketplace, and download an extension you install or buy.
  • For what you ask of it: the news feeds you add, a word you look up (from Wiktionary), Tailscale if you set it up for your phone, and the AI agent you plug in, which talks to its own provider under that provider's terms (an agent on your own computer talks to no one).

Licence keys are checked on your computer. A key bought here is also activated once on each computer you use it on, up to three. For that, Mecmua sends us the key and an anonymous code for the computer: a one-way hash of the system’s own machine id, which tells us nothing about the computer. We keep the code next to the key’s id so we can count. Mecmua asks again about once a week while it is open, and when you remove a licence. An activation lasts 60 days, so a computer that has not asked for that long waits until it can. About once a day it also downloads a signed list of keys we have withdrawn, which sends us nothing. If you have no licence key, none of this happens. A key contains the email it was sold to.

This website

This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads nothing from other companies: its fonts and pictures are its own. It is hosted by Netlify, which keeps ordinary server logs (such as IP addresses) to run and protect the service.

If you write to us through the contact form, we receive your name, email and message, kept by Netlify’s forms service, and use them only to answer you. Ask and we delete them.

Buying an extension

Payments are handled by Stripe, through its merchant of record service, Link, which is the seller you see at checkout and on your receipt. Stripe collects your card or wallet details, your billing address and your email; its own privacy policy covers them. We never see your card.

If the store emails you (your licence after a purchase), the email is sent through Resend, an email delivery service, which receives your address and the email’s content only to deliver it.

From each order we keep the order’s number and code, the email it was paid from, the extensions bought and the licence key, so the key can be delivered and found again. We also keep the anonymous codes of the computers a key is activated on, and the ids of keys that were replaced. We keep them as long as the licence lasts and as tax records require.

Your rights

You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, through the contact page.
