Backups

Your notes are in one folder on your computer. Copy that folder and you have a backup.

#Where your notes are

Everything you keep in Mecmua, your pages and the files you add, is stored in one folder on your own computer. Nothing is sent to the internet, and no one else can read it.

To see the folder, open the menu of Mecmua’s icon near the clock (in the menu bar on a Mac) and choose Show data folder.

#Make a backup

  1. Quit Mecmua from its icon’s menu, so nothing is being written while you copy.
  2. Copy the whole folder to a USB stick, an external drive, or another safe place.
  3. Open Mecmua again. That is all.
How often? As often as you would mind losing what you wrote since the last time. Once a week is a good habit.

#Restore a backup

Quit Mecmua, put the copied folder back in the same place (replacing the one there), and open Mecmua again. The same works on a new computer: install Mecmua, quit it, and put your folder where Show data folder points.
